F.A.Q
(not very) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Okay, so, what is The Anorak
Zone?
The Anorak Zone is an area of the Internet dedicated to tackling
cult and genre TV shows with, in theory, an eye for obsessive
detail. Hopefully there's a few games and laughs along the way,
too.
So
it's just science fiction then?
I also do Bagpuss and Laurel and Hardy.
What
have they got to do with science fiction?
Ummmm... I just like 'em, okay?
Okay,
I'm from the US - what is an "anorak"?
I
looked in the dictionary and it said 'a coat, similar to a parka'.
I take it that's not what you meant.
An anorak is the traditional coat worn by obsessive, train-spotting
types over here. I guess the nearest translation would be "geek".
But GeekZone doesn't quite have the same ring, does it?
So,
I take it you write and research it all yourself?
Yeah, it's something of a challenge.
... so...
have you had any praise for this site?
It's getting there. As well as five or six minor web awards, I've also had: Several listings on the BBC website;A listing in The Radio
Times Guide To Science Fiction as one of their "100 Great
Sites"; SFX #98 printing the following at the bottom of one
of their reviews: "For some lovely Sapphire And Steel analysis,
go to the brilliant website www.anorakzone.com. You can also wonder
if the words that flash up as you enter the site apply to you...";
and the Official Blake's 7 Website listing us as their "Personal
Favourite." and SFX awarding the same Blake's site their "Site of the Month" award in June 2005.
But I must admit that, despite things like that,
I still haven't conquered the universe with The Anorak Zone, but the visitor counts are going up all the time. Maybe
one day...
"Words that flash up as you enter the site?" I don't see any...
Yeah, when one of the Anorak Zone's updates had a little spoof of The Twilight Zone with stuff like "You're walking down the street when you suddenly realise you're 'between girlfriends..'" It was a bit of fun, but all stuff gets dated, and the index page you're reading now was newly installed in June 2005.
So
who are you, then? I see "The Anorak" everywhere,
but what's your name, your location, what do you look like?
Okay, I go by "The Anorak", and that's all you're going to
get. Oh, and I'm from England. Imagine if I get married one day
- there's no way I'm letting my wife see this site and connect
it with me. How embarrassing would that be? So anonymity it is...
So,
don't you have one of those self-consciously cute cartoon strips
at the bottom of your FAQ page that you had no part in creating,
but use anyway just to show how "wacky" and "zany"
you are?
Well that's a bit harsh, but I agree, I hate websites that bung
in a clipping from Peanuts or what have you. However, I did think
this one was quite amusing:

Can
I go back to the home page now, please? I've had enough of these
stupid bloody questions!
Ummm... okay, be like that then. Click here.
